V is for: Vibrations of Difficulty
Understanding Vibrations
One of the most common questions I get as an energy worker is “How can I raise my vibration?” which I love! But I often find that we’re lacking a good or at least common definition when we say these words in the first place. While the words “frequency” and “vibration” have been used so much they’ve often lost meaning, they’re very literal and important words if we want to understand what we’re bringing into our experience.
We live in a vibrational universe. Everything in life, whether physical, emotional, relational, or spiritual, has specific vibrations. Each of us has one overall frequency: the rate at which we are very literally vibrating! Our overall frequency is made of thousands of individual vibrations and their connections to each other.
We are only capable of experiencing or even running into things within our personal vibrational range. If our soulmate is standing right next to us, but our romantic vibration is somewhere around “grief,” it’s physically impossible for us to even turn our head and see them. But once our romantic vibration is attuned to something more like “hope,” we’re capable of seeing the people around us who could bring romantic hope into our lives.
Our frequency and vibrations are coming from our chakras and belief systems - beliefs which are mainly based on our experiences. If we have only experienced poverty, for instance, nothing in our lives or energetic systems is attuned to abundance, and it will take work to change belief systems to get one in vibrational range of abundance.
One of the steps we miss when trying to change what we are manifesting is this change to our belief systems, which are what we are manifesting based on, first and foremost. Without observation on why a vibration is low, it cannot raise for more than a very brief period. (Going back to the former example, one who has experienced poverty may receive a bonus from work, and briefly have their financial vibrations raised. But the moment that high wears off, the vibration goes back to where it was, and continues to manifest more poverty because that temporary boost did not actually get them in range of permanent new experiences.)
To change our experience and manifest something new, we must accept that at minimum, we are allowing the things we do not like in our lives by being a vibrational match for them. We must be willing to look at how we are matching the vibration, and from there it will change on its own. This is meant to help you understand the problem, because this is the only thing that can change the vibrations. Observation is the means by which we change our vibrations, and observation changes our vibrations every single time. Whether we observe a problem with hope and belief or with grief and despair is 100% what determines how the vibration changes.
Emotions as Vibrations
If you think of your emotions as vibrations, (and you should, because they are!), a scale of those vibrations would look something like this:
Joy/knowledge/Empowerment/Freedom/Love/Gratitude
2. Passion
3. Enthusiasm/Eagerness/Excitability
4. Belief/Positive Expectation
5. Optimism
6. Hopefulness
7. Contentment/Passivity/Patience
8. Boredom
9. Pessimism
10. Frustration/Agitation/Impatience
11. Overwhelm/Torn
12. Disappointment
13. Doubt
14. Worry
15. Blame
16. Discouragement
17. Anger
18. Vengeful
19. Hatred/Rage
20. Jealousy/Shame/Loneliness
21. Insecurity/Guilt/Unworthiness/Desperation
22. Fear/Grief/Depression/Despair/Powerlessness
If our vibration regarding coworkers is “rage,” we can only continue to manifest coworker situations which make us feel more rage. The situations may differ, the resulting emotion does not. We’re manifesting more of the vibration we put out, not a specific situation!
It is not possible to be on a vibration of grief and try to change your vibration to hope or joy. It’s too big of a vibrational leap, and the current vibration has been too well-practiced. We must work to see our current vibration, and move intentionally up the scale. If we feel grief, we can’t yet reach for hope, but maybe we can reach for rage, and that feels much better! From rage, maybe we can work toward worry. And from there, maybe frustration. Eventually, and even quickly if we’re trying, we can reach for feelings like peace and hope. This takes hard work, but it can be done quickly and it’s absolutely worth doing! The time will pass anyway, and you’ll wish you had. Exercises like this help you move up the scale much more quickly than by default because of the self-awareness involved in doing this honestly, and that’s why they’re so helpful!
*I made some very slight, Spirit-led tweaks, but this scale initially came from the book Ask and it is Given, by Esther and Jerry Hicks.*
Journaling to Work Through A Difficult Vibration
To use this journaling exercise, I recommend asking the questions of your higher self and/or spirit guides. Everyone has this ability, whether they initially recognize it or not, and usually we don’t recognize it because we are expecting answers to come a specific way. Allow for thoughts, feelings, memories, jokes, song lyrics - truly any way your guides and/or higher self can communicate with you, they will use. Write down everything you experience, even if it initially doesn’t make sense to you as it may in the future. (We all give this advice and everyone hates it but we all give this advice because every working intuitive knows how much we’ve lost because we didn’t write it down at the time.) If you decide to work through the exercise without asking for the answers, and working through what you think to be true, this can still also be very beneficial. But I heavily recommend working with one’s higher self and/or guides because our difficult vibrations are usually the ones where we’re inclined to lie to ourselves about why we are experiencing them. It doesn’t help us unless we are actually trying to feel better, and only awareness upon what is making us feel bad can fix the problem.
Even if you are not extremely confident in the answers you receive, trust that you know the difference between a right answer and a wrong one - you feel it in your body. Everyone’s body can recognize the truth and a correct answer, and everyone’s body can feel and recognize a lie or an incorrect answer. This is why we know innately when we are hearing or seeing something true, it rings accurate in every cell of our body but also it rings true to our higher self and it lights us up.
(If you’d like a quick exercise to teach yourself to recognize how your body responds to the truth vs. a lie [I learned this technique from a teaching shaman], please send me an email and I’ll send it over. I don’t offer it widely because people who seek it out tend to be obsessed with who is lying to them, when very honestly, if we are an honest person, we attract other honest people [that’s kind of the topic of this whole post]. We are only concerned about who else is lying to us if we are also people who put out a lot of lies, because we’re on the vibration of lies. So, I think it’s more important to learn this technique because one is practicing and concerned with lying to themselves or receiving the wrong information in a practice, and not because they’re obsessed with what others are telling them. To put it a little more succinctly and tie it back to vibration: every single thing we experience starts and ends in our own vibrations and what we put out into the world and believe to be true - if we’re experiencing lies from others we are also regularly lying, there is no other vibrational possibility.)
It’s best to choose one topic, and one in which you know at least one problematic vibration is holding you back. For instance: career, the future, romance, finances - you can do the exercise as many times as necessary for problematic vibrations, but stick to one topic at a time. One question will ask you to quantify your vibration, which you can do with the Emotional Scale.
I personally came up with this method working with Spirit, and it has completely changed how and how quickly I manifest new things. This comes from honesty about what’s holding me back. This isn’t manifesting as we’ve come to think of it, by just saying positive affirmations or focusing only on what’s good and believing things will change. Affirmations don’t help if we don’t change our belief systems and actually believe what we say. We have a very hard time focusing on the positive before we’ve seen any evidence of it in our experience. If we believe we are lonely today, we also believe we will still be lonely tomorrow. To manifest a partner, we have to work first on the belief system that we will still be lonely tomorrow. If we change that belief, our experience will change, immediately and drastically. The same goes for anything else! If we want a new experience, we must address why we expect and believe we will keep having this experience. If you want abundance, address why you believe you will still be lacking tomorrow. If you want excitement, address why you believe you will still be bored tomorrow. If you want creativity, address why you believe you’ll still be blocked tomorrow. There is no area of life which isn’t maintained by our vibrations, which come from our belief systems.
If you believed you were capable of experiencing what you want, you would already be experiencing it, in every case. This will help you work through the vibrations of difficulty and see why you believe you will continue to manifest something you do not want to. This changes what we’re manifesting, and it changes it immediately!
For each of these, allow for surprising answers. Write down what you get, even if it’s just a symbol you’ve never seen before. Let each answer really build on what came before. Please use the emotional scale above to answer the questions about vibrations.
Journaling Exercise to Immediately Raise A Troubling Vibration
Area of Life:
What is my current, overall vibration in this area? (Use the emotional scale for a number or feeling):
What is this vibration currently manifesting in my life?
(This is the most important part!) Why is my current vibration in this area low to begin with? How am I contributing to the problems?
Which limiting or damaging belief/s am I holding which are keeping this vibration low?
Which of my chakras is/are holding the beliefs responsible for this, and do they need healing? (If so, ask for Spirit to send healing elements of any kind, released in any way, to the source of the problem. Some do not feel they have any connection to or understanding of their chakras at all, and I recommend skipping this step in that case, and know that working with the limiting or damaging belief will heal the chakra holding that belief in time as well.)
Have these beliefs created any issues in my auric field I need to be aware of? (Damaging and limiting beliefs often cause many issues in the auric field, especially weak and dense spots. If so, address these and ask for or send healing to them as well.)
Do I understand everything I need to about why this vibration has been affecting me? Have I done all I can for the moment? (If yes, move on, if no, go back up and ask more questions about what is keeping this vibration low.)
Ask your team to help by guiding your observation. I ask like this: “I ask the greater Spirit to place my energetic observation upon each of these vibrational obstacles with the absolute certainty that they have already healed, balance has been restored, and I am manifesting only positivity in this regard.” (You can choose to ask your higher self rather than your spirit guides, and/or update this to a sentence that feels right for you as long as you’re focusing your energetic observation upon the obstacle with positivity.) Feel for the raising of the vibration after you do this! Even if you skip this step, becoming aware of the problem changes it, every single time, but this energetic observation really speeds up the process! It also REALLY matters that you focus on it with positive feelings and intentions! Observation is a law of the universe and it will change things, whether you intend that or not. If you focus on a vibrational obstacle with thoughts like, “I’m the worst, this will never get better, I can’t believe I think this,” etc., the vibration will get worse and not better! It’s very important to focus on it with the knowledge that it has already healed and gotten better, if you use this method of intentionally placing your focus, which will speed this up immensely. This is why I use the words I do!
Where is the vibration standing now? (It should have raised at least a few points, and know it will continue to raise in the coming days so long as a new problematic belief isn’t present. You can also repeatedly ask for your observation to be placed upon the obstacles with the knowledge that they’ve already healed, and every time you do it, it will speed up the changing of the vibration and what you’re experiencing.)
Is there anything else I should pay attention to in this regard? If no, thank your spirit guides and higher self and close the practice! If yes, keep going as long as necessary to get as much information as you can. Every bit of information will change the vibrations and allow for new thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Thank you!
When you change your vibrations, you must change what you are experiencing in real time, every time! Our vibrations are the creators of our experience, and there is nothing we cannot do in this world with observation and consent. If we observe what’s holding us back with honesty, and consent to our higher self and spirit guides to help us change it, we can do absolutely anything.
I initially made this as a printable PDF which I could send to the clients with whom I work as a mentor, and here is that PDF if you’d like to print this and use the journaling exercise as a worksheet!
